Dental Implants San Juan Capistrano
At Mission Laser Dentistry in San Juan Capistrano, CA, Dr. Robert Faber DDS
provides the latest in dental implants and restorative dental treatment. A dental
implant is a remarkable way of replacing missing teeth with a comfortable, life-like
alternative. When a patient is missing one or more teeth, dental implants are often the
very best solution.
Diagnosis and Planning Dental Implants
The first step in the dental implants process for our San Juan Capistrano dental
patients is a consultation with Dr. Faber DDS, during which all possible tooth
replacement options will be discussed. To be a good candidate for dental implants, the
dental patient must have sufficient bone in his or her jaw to support the implants.
Once it is determined that the patient is a good candidate for dental implants, a
consultation with one of our surgical colleagues follows.
Surgical Phase
A dental implant may only be placed in good healthy bone and in a mouth that is free
from other dental disease. Once these conditions have been established, the implant is
surgically placed. Little post-operative discomfort is expected. The implant is coated
with a material that is bio-engineered to be well-received by the bone in the human
body. It is this coating that allows for integration of the implant to occur over the
ensuing 3-6 months-at which time the implant is ultimately restored with a crown,
bridge or connected to a denture.
Restorative Phase
When the implant has integrated with the bone, the implant(s) can be restored by Dr.
Faber. As noted, this is usually 3-6 months after the Implant was initially placed.
Dental Implants Preferred Over Dentures and Bridges
Many of Dr. Faber DDS's San Juan Capistrano area dental implant patients prefer
permanent dental implants over traditional removable dentures for several reasons.
Dental implants are nearly indistinguishable from a patient's natural teeth... While
traditional dentures need to be removed nightly for cleaning, dental implants are a
permanent tooth loss solution that generally require no additional maintenance outside
of normal, good oral hygiene routine. Dental implants also allow patients to feel more
comfortable while speaking and eating because dental implants are permanently
affixed to the patient's jaw, making Implants much more secure than dentures.
Fixed bridges are also a nice solution for replacing missing teeth. They are
permanently cemented and secure. They certainly can be life-like in appearance and
function, but bridges have 2 main drawbacks-they require reduction/alteration of the
teeth adjacent to those that are missing, and they require special effort to clean around
them.
